KSV News: Short Round 032

Red Clay Magazines- Our Digital Afterlife

In our prior Short Round newsletter, we discussed how we found a proper and permanent home for every physical copy of our Red Clay magazine collection.  Every single one that was ever printed!  Wow!!!!!

Tommy, Ernie, Craig, Rev Ray and others who had been at the editorial helm of Red Clay, along with all (hundreds, maybe thousands) who contributed articles, photos and stories, will rest knowing their efforts did not end up in the trash heap of history.  The physical magazines are now under the safeguarding and care of our fellow Marines in the History Division of the Marine Corps University in Quantico. There just could not be a more perfect solution!

In this pursuit, it became apparent to us that our collection of Red Clay articles stands apart among documents about Khe Sanh and the war there.  The articles are an in depth collection of contemporaneous, firsthand, first person, on site reports from a wide range of contributors and perspectives.  Taken together, the articles are an absolutely unique and accurate historical record of the Khe Sanh event.  The stuff that historians drool over!!

So how will current and future generations access our Red Clay treasure trove of knowledge?

Every sword has two edges!  While being incredibly secure, visiting the History Division at Quantico is not the easiest of places to access their secured materials, including our paper Red Clay collection.

This, coupled with the brutal fact that it has become WAAAYYY too expensive and labor intensive to continue to produce and mail physical copies of any future printed magazine and similar communications pretty much forces us to a digital solution to have an afterlife.

Our challenge is to provide our members, historians and future generations the ability to read, reread and reminisce over the absolutely unique store of Khe Sanh knowledge that the Red Clay Collection provides.

So……  We have now embarked on a totally digital solution!!  To include:

– Our digital web site: (khesanh.vet)

– Digital newsletters:  Our weekly Short Round publications like you are now reading: https://khesanh.vet/newsletter/

– New Digital Red Clay Magazine Articles: (https://khesanh.vet/red-clay-ii-new-articles/

– New / Updated Discussion Forum for member interactions (that is NOT Facebook): khesanh.vet/discussion-board/forum/first-forum/

– Jack Haigwood’s listings of our recently Fallen brothers: https://khesanh.vet/families-passages-2/

– Dan Fisher’s KSV Scholarship Program: khesanh.vet/ksv-scholarship-fund/

– Most Amazing!!! Access to reread or reprint every article ever written in the Red Clay Magazines and associated Collection: khesanh.vet/red-clay-magazine-to-2025-in-one-large-file-for-searching-all/

Take some time to digest all this- it is a phenomenal accomplishment.  Our collective and continuing gratitude to our members and others who made it possible.

We have made it so #1.

Enjoy!
