Vitas, Alan Carl

Alan Carl Vitas

October 26, 1946 – June 3, 2015

Alan Carl Vitas peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on June 3rd due to cancer complications. He is survived by his loving son Jason, daughter-in-law Diane, daughter Jennifer, five grandchildren, and Anita Vitas. Born Oct 26, 1946, to Carl “Pappy” and Eva Vitas, he grew up on the west side of downtown Cleveland. He loved playing baseball in the Hicks playground sandlot with the other neighborhood kids and graduated from West Technical High School in 1964. He was a patriot to the core and a proud U.S. Marine who served 2+ tours in Vietnam, most notably the Battle of Khe Sanh. He earned his Bachelors in Technical Education from the University of Akron and spent most of his professional career at Monsanto/Alpha Technologies in Akron. A 40-year resident of Silver Lake Village, he enjoyed attending air shows and fireworks displays, riding Cedar Point roller coasters, and unbeknownst to many could do standing backflips to cheering kids in the living room into his thirties! He will be remembered for his fortitude and character and for dropping whatever he was doing to help friends, loved ones, and even strangers in need. Aside from a private family memorial and a previously held life party, no additional services are planned. He will be greatly missed, Semper Fi Dad.
