Donald Gordon Thorpe

Donald Gordon Thorpe, 75, of Palm Harbor, FL., passed away May 23, 2020. Donald was born July 22, 1944, in Bridgeport, CT., to the late Richard and Florence (Krause) Thorpe. He joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1966 and served in Communications at Khe Sanh, Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he earned the Bronze Star with a “V” for Valor. Donald also served as the Color Sargent of the Marine Corp and was in the Color Guard during the inauguration of President Richard Nixon and during the funeral of President Dwight D. Eisenhower as well as state dinners at the White House and funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. He had a passion for sailing and was an excellent sailor. He was a member of the Lake Tarpon Village Veterans’ Association and the Marine Raiders Lunch Bunch.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Betty Thorpe, daughter, Heather Kusick, Brother, Richard (Raquel) Thorpe, stepchildren, David Reid, Donald Reid, Joseph (Ruthie) Reid, Debra Campbell, Donna McInerny, and Joyce (Daniel) Wagner. He is also survived by 19 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.
