Jan K. Strieter, Sr

April 9, 1947 – December 14, 2013

Bootjack: Jan K. Strieter, Sr., 66, of Bootjack, passed away after a lengthy illness on December 14, 2013.

He was born on April 9, 1947, in L’Anse, the son of Lucille (Kaupila) Strieter. He was a graduate of Dollar Bay High School. He worked for C&H, Siirtola’s, and Kohler before enlisting in the Marines. He served overseas in Vietnam where he was injured at the Battle of Khe Sanh. For his actions, he earned the Bronze Star with a Combat V and the Purple Heart Medal. When he returned home, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He next owned and operated Lakes Yamaha for several years. Later, he received his Real Estate License and worked for Century 21 and Gateway Real Estate as a broker until he retired again.

On August 19, 1978, he was married to Susan Rheault at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden.

He was a member of the Marine Corp. League, Life Member of the VFW and the VFW past Commanders and Presidents Club, American Legion Post 90 of Lake Linden, Military order of the Purple Hearts, member of the DAV, life member of the National Rifle Association, he had been a member of the Valley SnoDrifters Snowmobile Club, former member of the Dollar Bay Volunteer Fire Dept and the Dollar Bay Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by: his Mother and a sister Karen Statler.

Jan is survived by: his wife Sue of Bootjack; 2 sons-Jan (Mary Birmingham) Strieter, Jr and Dale (Angie Henry) Strieter; 4 brothers-Ted (Kay), Richard (Gloria), Doug (Jane), and Kim; 3 sisters-Kathy (Alan) Salmela, Kristine Michaelson, and Susan Joy Strieter, along with numerous other relatives.
