Michael Smith

Michael Edward Smith passed away on November 16, 2017 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Johnna Dennis Smith of Saraland, Al; his two sons, Michael J. Smith of Mobile, Al and Scott (Melanie) Smith of Daphne, AL; and one daughter, Jaclyn (Nicky) Foster of Charlottesville, Va. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Matthew, Johnathan and Henry, Carieann, Sydney, Mikey and Makayla; his sisters Linda (Bobby) Robinette of Panama City, Fl, Pamela Ball of Mobile, Al, and Renee (Harry) McMullen of Spanish Fort, Al; his mother-in-law, Laverne Dennis of Saraland; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Lucille Smith, natives of Panama City, Florida; and his father-in-law, James Dennis of Saraland. He was a proud U.S. Marine who served in the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 447, Devil Dogs #184, Pentalpha Lodge #804 F.&A.M. and the Abba Shriners. He retired from International Paper Company as a machine operator.
