Paul was an American Red Cross field director killed at the Khe Sanh Combat base, South Vietnam during the initial stages of the Tet Offensive. The Battle of Khe Sanh was conducted at the beginning of the Tet Offensive in Khe Sanh of northwestern Quảng Trị Province, Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), between 21 January and 9 July 1968 during the Vietnam War. Khe Sanh was located 7 miles from the Laotian border and about 11 miles south of the demilitarized zone.
