Frederick Joseph Parsons – 70, passed away unexpectedly at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Wednesday evening, June 13, 2018. Born in Montpelier on June 19, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Lucy A. (Young) Parsons. On October 8, 1977, Fred married the former Sheryl (Rexford) Corbeil in Waterbury. Fred attended schools in Montpelier and then enlisted in 1966 to serve his country as a member of the US Marine Corp. While in Vietnam, Fred participated in the Tet Offensive, one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the war when forces from the People’s Army of North Vietnam carried out a massive artillery bombardment on the U.S. Marine garrison at Khe Sanh, located in South Vietnam near the border with Laos. For 77 days, U.S. Marines and their South Vietnamese allies fought off an intense siege of the garrison. Following his discharge from the service, Fred had a long and distinguished career in construction, working in a variety of positions, most notably as a heavy equipment operator. Fred was proud of his military service and kept his connection with those who served as a member of VFW Post 790 of East Barre, the Barre American Legion Post 10, and the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59 in Waterbury. In his leisure time you would find him on his Harley Davidson cruising the roads, snowmobiling when the roads were covered with snow, camping and 4-wheeling. Feeling the need for speed, Fred thoroughly enjoyed car racing, whether it was driving his “Lazy 8” in the Street Stock Division at Thunder Road or his #13 “Mod Squad” on the dirt track at Bear Ridge. Fred is loved and mourned by his wife of nearly 41 years, Sheryl Corbeil Parsons of Washington; their sons, Joe Corbeil and his wife Penny of East Barre, Leo Corbeil, Jr. and his wife Denise of Moretown, Jake Corbeil and his fiancée Louella Slater of Brandon, Shawn Corbeil and his wife Michelle of Fort Anne NY, Quint Corbeil (deceased); 14 grandchildren, Chelsea Hallstrom, Joshua Corbeil, Travis Corbeil, Tyler White, Shayne Corbeil, Kyle Corbeil and his wife Kelsie, Karen Scott, Autumn Corbeil, Jacob Corbeil, Mark Bordonaro, Brandon Corbeil, Robert Lewis, Damon Gibbs, and Natasha Lewis; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce LaMountain of E.
