Billy Ray Moffett

August 12, 1944 – December 7, 2014

Billy Ray Moffett, 70-year-old Checotah resident, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014, in Eufaula. He was born on Saturday, August 12, 1944, in Henryetta, Oklahoma to William Eugene and Venie J. (Parker) Moffett. Billy was raised in Henryetta where he graduated from High School.

He entered the United States Marines on Friday, January 3, 1966. While in the Marines, Billy Ray earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged on Friday, January 3, 1969.

After being discharged, Billy worked in Tulsa at Harding Glass, delivered Tulsa newspapers and was a certified security guard thru Pinkerton and worked as security guard at Wabash Metals in Checotah.

There was a book written about him and his fellow warriors titled, “Last Stand at Khe Sanh.” He loved fishing, drinking coffee with his buddies, scenic drives, time at home and loved the Florida beaches, but the biggest smile on Billy’s face was when he entered the city of New Orleans on vacation. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tommy and Jimmy Moffett, 2 infant children and his wife Connie who passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2009. He is lovingly survived by his fiancé’ Brenda Rafael of the home; daughters, Carrie Jean Moffett of California and Kateryna Moffett Kunytska and her husband Alexander of Ukraine; grandchildren, Brittany Wright of Tulsa and Nash Wright of Claremore and Nicholas Kunytska of Ukraine. He is survived by his sister, Carol Thompson of Henryetta; brother-in-law, Dennis Elledge and his wife Elizabeth of Warner and sister-in-law, Pat Lee of Tulsa.
