Milazzo, Anthony

Anthony Milazzo

March 14, 1947  —  September 13, 2023

Anthony “Tony” Milazzo, lovingly known as “Doc”, died Wednesday, September 13, 2023, following a brief illness. He was 76.
Born in Paterson, Tony was raised there and graduated from East Side High School in 1964. He attended South Florida University on scholarship for one year before enlisting in the Navy. Recognizing his intelligence, the military sent him for training at medic school, and he became a Marine, serving with the Khe Sanh 3/4 in Danang, Cam Lo and Khe Sanh from November of 1967 through November of 1968. For heroic actions in battle, he was awarded a Purple Heart.
Tony completed his time with the Marines serving as a medic at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. After being honorably discharged, he finished his education at William Paterson University in Wayne and soon secured a career as a shipping manager for a biomedical firm.

While at a mutual friend’s party in Paterson, Tony met Mary Mitro. The couple quickly fell in love, and on September 20, 1975, were married.
Moving to Pompton Plains in 1977, they welcomed the birth of a daughter, Kristen, a few years later.

Tony and Mary had a long and loving marriage, though they both had struggles with their health. In 2014, Mary passed away after her own battle with cancer. She has been dearly missed by Tony and Kristen ever since.
Following her passing, Tony changed careers and has since worked for Stryker Orthopedics in Mahwah as their Security Director. He also left Pompton Plains, and moved to West Milford to be closer to his daughter.
A proud Marine, Tony was a longtime member of the Marine Corps League in Oakland.

Tony is lovingly survived by his daughter, Kristen Milazzo; his cousins, Ellen, Lorraine, Mariellen, Juliann, and Wes (and their children); his best friend, John Cina; his brother and sister in law; many beloved nieces, and nephews; as well as a lot of really great friends.
