COL. ROBERT MCINTEER

28 Nov 1933 – February 20, 2009

The family of Robert McInteer with profound regret announces his death due to stroke Friday, February 20th. First a Marine, husband, father and best of comrades. Robert was commissioned in the Marine Corps in1960 and served 32 years in various fleet and staff billets. He was especially proud of commanding the 2nd Tank Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC for 3 years. His final tours were as Chief of Staff III Marine Amphibious Force in Okinawa, Japan and Chief of Staff Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot Parris Island, SC. His greatest satisfaction was to have helped train the armor units, officers, and men who performed so effectively in the first Gulf War. Robert served two combat tours in Vietnam, first as a company commander at Khe Sanh, and as an advisor to Vietnamese Marine Corps battalion in Hue City. After retiring and coming to Indianapolis, Robert worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the Safety Director for 11 years. He helped reorganize the safety section and assisted in conducting three great events: the 500 Mile Race, The Brickyard 400, and the first Formula One U.S. Grand Prix. Robert enjoyed the company and friendship of Jim Campbell and the late Roger Deppe. He was thrilled to attend his son Rob’s football and lacrosse games.
