Joel Patrick Mccoy

Joel Patrick McCoy, aged 75, passed away on August 6, 2024, after a battle with COPD and lung cancer. He was born on September 6, 1948, in Mt Kisco, NY to Joel Edgar and Kathryn Thompson McCoy. He was the youngest of four siblings. After Joel graduated from Lakeland High School in 1967, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1967-1969. Joel valued this service highly and attained the rank of Private First Class and received a Rifle Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star, and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device. Joel did one tour in Vietnam and survived the Battle of Khe Sanh.  After his military service, Joel started as a draftsman with Peabody Engineering and built a successful career in Industrial product development and software sales, which brought him all over the world. He often shared fond memories of his travels to Taiwan and Korea. Joel settled in Cascade, Colorado after retirement, embracing a private life enjoying the scenery of the Rockies with his beloved Border Collie, Gracie, until relocating to Kennesaw, GA in 2023, closer to his first son, Morgan, and granddaughters. Joel was predeceased by his parents, Joel Edgar McCoy and Kathryn Thompson McCoy, and his sister Dorris Kay “Deke” Anunson. He is survived by sisters, Michelle Hamilton and Toni Ann Sampson; two sons, Morgan McCoy and Colby McCoy, two granddaughters, Charlotte McCoy and Natalie McCoy, and former wives, Marsha McCoy, Bonnie Summers, and Kerri Holton. Joel was known for his charm, private nature, and pride in his service to his country. He will be deeply missed by his family.
