Bruce D. Mason

Bruce D. Mason, age 73, of Stevens Point, died at home, January 20, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born February 11, 1941 to the late Stanley and Elin (Nielson) Mason in Manchester, CT. He grew up there, and attended the local schools before his family moved to Cleveland, TN. Bruce graduated from Bradley Central High School. He married Judy E. Newell on August 17, 1968 in Eddyville, IA. Bruce was inducted into the US Navy in July 1967. He served during the Vietnam Conflict as a medic with the US Marines at Khe Sanh and Con Thien. He was honorably discharged on June 15, 196Bruce attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN for 3 years before being accepted into the medical school at the University of TN – Memphis. Bruce received his MD in 1965 and pursued studies in pathology. He completed a general internship at St Paul Ramsey Hospital in St Paul, MN. He began his residency at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN and completed four more years of pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Bruce worked as a pathologist in Cooperstown, NY, Ottumwa, IA, and finished his career at Saint Michaels Hospital in Stevens Point. He retired in 20009.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Stevens Point; children, Stephen (Jennifer) Mason of Vestavia Hills, AL, and Katherine (Brice) Alvord of Green Lake, WI; grandchildren, Elin, Anna, & Emilie Mason, and Phineas & August Alvord; brother, Ronald (Donna) Mason of Cleveland, TN; sister, Holly (David) Ivy of Cleveland, TN; and nieces & nephews.
