KVS News: Short Round 015
In Her Father’s Footsteps
Following is a short message from Melissa Georgesen, daughter of a KSV Fallen Member, Kenneth Martin (1948-2015), Her run honored him and other Marines:
On October 26, 2025, I ran the Marine Corps Marathon. It was the 50th year of the race!
The medal is amazing!!
At mile 24, I came up on a young Marine, Claire. She is stationed in Okinawa with her husband (also a Marine). This was her first marathon! She had an injured knee. Something inside of me told me to stop and see if she was ok.
We carried each other through the last 2 miles. My hip was hurting- we were both in pain. But I was not going to let her go- she was coming with me! We ran. We walked. We limped.
I thought of my Dad and all his Khe Sanh brothers and I found my strength to complete the task.
Semper Fi to all of you!
Melissa
Serving with Bravo Company, 3rd Recon. Ken would come home from Vietnam wearing three Purple Heart Medals
