Retired Major “Bud” Golden C. Kirkland, USMC, age 79, a resident of Warrenton VA passed away on November 4, 2016. He served over 20 years in the Marine Corps and was awarded the Bronze Star with (V) device for his actions during the Battle of Khe Sanh, in the Republic of Vietnam. After the Marine Corps, he had a successful career as a senior executive in the defense and telecommunications sectors. He is predeceased by his son, Captain Gary C. Kirkland, USMC. Bud is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn A. Kirkland of Warrenton, VA, Cousins, Pat and Elmer Coker, Sonny Kirkland and his wife, Janie, Bob Kirkland and his wife Rita and Kirk Coker and his wife, Shannon. Bud had a special relationship with his godparents, Myrtle and Orville Wilson of Birmingham, AL, who helped to raise him. Bud was an avid fly fisherman, creative writer, and spent his time volunteering at various wounded warrior therapeutic and recreational events. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 1 PM at Old Post Chapel-Ft. Myer, VA (enter Hatfield gate/Wright Gate for DOD ID card holders only!!) with full military honors burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
