Peter Anthony Giacchetta

May 3, 1948 – July 15, 2026

Peter Giacchetta of Fletcher, N.C., passed away July 15, 2026, fighting his final battle with lung cancer.

Peter was born on May 3, 1948, in Albany, NY, the son of Peter and Rose Giacchetta. He grew up in Albany and was a 1967 graduate of Shenendehowa High School. Generous, talented as well as a gifted talker, Peter devoted his love to his family, including his wife (Ryl) whom he deeply loved and shared 38 years of marital bliss. Peter was a devoted father to his daughters and Papa to his grandchildren who brought smiles and sunshine to him.

Peter was devoted to his country serving in Vietnam from 1967-1969 in the USMC, rank Sgt earning 2 purple hearts. Peter served with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines (1/9 Walking Dead). Peter continued to enjoy the comradery of his fellow Veterans.

As a younger man Peter’s passion was being a Volunteer Fireman in the Northville NY fire department (NVFD). Peter joined the NVFD in 1980 and served until 2003. Peter worked as an insurance agent while serving on the NVFD and raising his family.

Peter treasured his daily routines which included his love for gardening and lawn work. Nightly he and Ryl would sit on their back deck and would have a toast to celebrate another day together. Peter’s hobbies were golfing with his buddies and fishing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his alone time fly fishing.

Peter is survived by his wife: Ryl, children Angela (Thad) Ferry, Gretchen (Bill) England, Jessica and Megan and grandchildren: Hunter, Gia, Troy, Tristan, Theodore, Adeline and Arkadi.

He is also survived by his mother, Rose (Steele) Giacchetta and siblings: Tim (Kathy), Rose Marie, Trevor (Christine), Mike (May) and Anthony (Nori) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peter is predeceased by his father, Peter Giacchetta and his brother Mark also known as “squeakers”.
