Estenson, David H.

David H. Estenson

December 21, 2020

Estenson, David H. 75 of Minneapolis, Alexandria and Ft. Myers, FL. passed away on December 21st. David graduated from Washburn HS in south Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. He was a proud Marine serving in Company L, 3rd Battalion, Fourth Marines Division and company D, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, the 3rd and 26th Marines Division (Reinforced). Lance Corporal Estenson became squad leader and eventually company operations chief. He received the Presidential Unit Citation and was awarded to wear the Combat-V. David was fresh out the Marine Corps in 1968 after a brave and distinguished tour in Vietnam in the thick of the action at Con Thien, Khe Sanh and other reconnaissance missions throughout the North when he strolled into the architecture and planning office where his future wife Mary Anne worked. While testing and awaiting an opening with the Minneapolis Police Department, David became an exceptional salesman selling high end furniture to architects for their clients. He always dressed like an Ivy Leaguer, and he acquired a lifetime of extraordinarily good taste for all things contemporary in the world of art and furnishings. Alas, he joined the police department and eventually took the light, Mary Anne, away from the architecture practice. David was extremely loyal and had great empathy for those he touched and respected. He was always on top of the list to care for those who needed help of any kind. Always there for his friends, their parents and children. David was a Minneapolis Police Officer proudly serving for 25 years. Much of that time was with the Minneapolis Police Bomb Squad. Sgt. Estenson was the driving force behind the development of “ESTY”, the 32-acre Explosive Storage and Training Yard in the south metro that over the years hosted critical training for bomb technicians from around the country. David is preceded in death by his father Harold, Mother Clara and brother-in-law Jim Hibbard. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Mary Anne, brother Craig (Susan), brother-in-law John Hibbard (Cheryl), sister-in-law Margaret Hernlem (James), nieces, nephews and cousins from around Sunburg, MN. Goodbye for now, Semper Fi!
