Kenneth F. Collins

Kenneth F. Collins, 78, formerly of Newburgh, died at his Beacon home on Dec. 9 with his wife by his side.
He was born Oct. 10, 1947. In 1966, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, transitioning into the 1st Cavalry Division. He served three tours in Vietnam including the siege of Khe Sanh and was awarded the Silver Star and several Purple Hearts. He was honorably discharged in 1969 as a sergeant.
He was a life member of the VFW, past commander of the American Legion Judson P. Galloway Post 152 in Newburgh and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Khe Sanh Veterans and the Elks Club. Ken was a lifelong Yankees fan.
Along with his wife of 26 years, Linda Miller-Collins, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Steger and Tara Collins (Matt); grandchildren, Emily Strapinsky (Seth), Sophie Steger, Jillian Hanlon and Adam Hanlon; and his siblings, Carolyn St. John (Steven) and Michael Collins (Carol). His sister, Janice Martin, and niece, Alexis Cone, died earlier.
