Warren Ray Blount, M.D.

January 10, 1945 – July 29, 2023

Warren Ray Blount, M.D., Emergency Physician at the former Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee for 17 years passed away Saturday July 29, 2023, after a long decline in health due to service in the United States Marine Corps in the Republic of Viet Nam, 1966-1969, as a member of the Third Force Reconnaissance Battalion. Warren took part in some of the fiercest fighting in Vietnam, including the Battle of Khe Sanh, and the Tet Offensive. In addition to a Purple Heart, he also received a Navy Commendation, Bronze Star, and Vietnamese Cross, along with several other commendations.

Warren was born in Medina, New York to Daniel Blount Jr. and Vera Clute Blount. He was the youngest of 5 children, and had 3 brothers and 1 sister, Richard, deceased (Lucille), Kenneth (Janet), Robert (Mary Lou), Dawn Evans (G. Lonnie, deceased) and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Most of his family continues to live in the Medina area to this day.

After military service, Warren attended and graduated from the University of Alabama, Surgeon’s Assistant Program where he trained with and assisted several world class Cardiac Surgeons. He moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and worked for 14 years in Cardio-Vascular Surgery at Butterworth Hospital assisting in over 6000 open heart surgeries, and cardiac transplants. Warren then attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency in Michigan in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth D. Blount DVM, a local veterinarian, and their children Trevin W. Blount and his wife, Rosie, currently living in Taiwan; and Alexandra C. Blount, a student at the University of North Florida. He is also survived by a daughter Connie R. Mares and husband Glenn A. Mares of Tallahassee, a son Chris and Michelle Keif of Cummings, GA, 8 grandchildren and 7
great grandchildren.
