KSV News: Short Round 057

Your Khe Sanh Photos

Many of us still have photos from our Khe Sanh tours that are hidden away amongst our beat up (never shined!) jungle boots, dog tags, and other Vietnam memorabilia.  At our age, most of these treasures will likely end up in a round file somewhere.  And sooner rather than later!

But….. your Khe Sanh photos can now have a new life going forward!

Please understand: Our khesanh.vet website is limited in its ability to store and display any more photos for posterity than we currently host.  We are maxed out!

But, but……. we have a solution for your photo treasures that is a huge new achievement:  We have been successful integrating our most awesome website khesanh.vet with our Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/KheSanhVeteransAssoc/). And …..  we have just added our new Instagram Account: (https://www.instagram.com/khesanh.vet/) to our linked social media mix.  What a team!!  Bookmark these addresses now for your future use.

Instagram is driven by photos and movie clips.  Most important Instagram has close to an unlimited storage capacity for photos.  And we now have an Instagram presence (link above) exclusively for hosting your photos.  So, if you are an Instagram user, please post your photos using the description format provided below,

If you are a Facebook user, bring it on!  You can post your photos on our Facebook Group (link above) using the description format provided below.  Even better, we have established an automatic link so that any photos that you post to our Facebook group page will automatically also be posted to our Instagram page.  Think of it- two viewing opportunities for the price of one!!

And our most important achievement:  If you are unable or unwilling to post your photos- we will post your Khe Sanh photos to both Facebook and Instagram for you!

No learning curve for you and guaranteed successful post and display.  Our  wonderful webmaster Alex has volunteered to carry this part of the load for you.  THANK YOU, ALEX!!  Please contact her at admin@khesanh.vet to start a conversation about preserving your photo treasures.

Now, your mission:  Dust off your photo memories.  If they are not digital, take then to a local drug store, Staples, Walmart, etc and have them scanned to digital format.  Better- just do it today!!

In all of this, how your photos are “Indexed” is THE most critical component.  Without a meaningful title and description, they will not be found among the zillions! of other on line images ten years from now.  Choose and describe only those photos from your collection that will be a significant addition to Khe Sanh history for future generations  The ones your grandchildren will want to visit and learn from.  Including  “LCpl John Hardass USMC” will help them find you in future indices.

To be posted, each of your photos will need:

1. A one line title (Include “Khe Sanh”)

2. A two – three line description (Include “Khe Sanh” again)

3. To be in jpeg format

Please visit our KSV Photos Bunker (https://khesanh.vet/home/khe-sanh-photo-album/) for photo and caption examples.

This is an incredible new opportunity to preserve your personal Khe Sanh photographic memories and history.  And to share them with family, friends and the future.  After posting your photos, you will be able to share them using just their computer URL link (www.____) with family and friends.  They can save that link to re-visit and share for years to come.  And they can repeatedly view your photos at their convenience.

Imagine the benefits: No more showing up at the door of your next family reunion, BIF (Beer In Fist) lugging your 8’x10’ roll up movie screen and slide projector!!  And your grandchildren can easily create a photo exposition of your Khe Sanh memories for their next class history project.

This opportunity is important!  Please, give it a try with just a couple of your prized photos to start.  Tell us about your results by email to admin@khesanh.vet  Please also send suggestions for anything we can do to make it easier for you to preserve and share your memories.
