Dannie Joe Cable

September 25, 1946 – May 9, 2026

Dannie Joe Cable, 79, passed away at his home in Kerrville, TX on May 9, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on September 25, 1946, the youngest son of Francis “Frank” and Gladys (Kidwell) Cable.

Dan survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen (Ferris) Cable; his brother, Gene (Patty) Cable of Gravois Mills; daughter Dana (David) Hutchison of Versailles; son Seth Cable of Leeton; stepson Joe Dollison of Warrensburg; and stepdaughter Leigh Anne Bowling of Kerrville, Texas.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Alex (LaCota Graham) Cable and Erin (Brandon) Landris, both of California; Gage Cable of Springfield; Grant (Shelby) Hutchison of Stover; Haley Hutchison of Oregon; and Taylor and Leland Dollison of Warrensburg. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Lucy Landris and Daniel Cable.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his three older brothers, Paul, Jack, and Sam Cable.

Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964 after graduating from the Versailles High School. Dan proudly served his country for six years, including two tours in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, he survived the Battle of Khe Sanh during the Tet Offensive and combat at Con Thien. He carried the pride and honor of his service with him throughout his life and quietly found ways to support and honor fellow veterans, often anonymously paying for their meals and helping whenever he had the opportunity.

 

After returning home, Dan remained deeply connected to the men he served besides, traveling across the country over the years to reunite with and support the Marines he fought alongside in Vietnam. The bonds formed in war became lifelong brotherhoods that he cherished deeply. Like many veterans, he also carried the lasting effects of war throughout much of his life.

Using the GI Bill, Dan attended Drury University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He dedicated much of his professional life to law enforcement and security work, serving with several law enforcement departments in the Lake of the Ozarks area. In addition to his time in law enforcement, Dan served as the Director of Security for Marriott International based at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. During his career with Marriott, he also helped open several properties across the United States, including locations in New Orleans, San Antonio, Miami and Vail.

Dan was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Fox News. In his later years, Dan found happiness in quiet routines, long walks, watching wildlife behind his home, and time spent with family. Though he will be greatly missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is finally at peace.
